UGC-DEB Approval Explained: How to Verify an Online University
By Site Admin · 12 Oct 2026
A five-minute checklist to make sure your online degree is recognised before you pay a rupee.
Why it matters
Only universities listed on the UGC-DEB portal can award online degrees. A degree from anyone else is not valid for jobs or further studies.
The checklist
- Open deb.ugc.ac.in and search the university name.
- Confirm the specific program (e.g. MBA) is listed for the online mode, not just ODL.
- Check the academic year of approval matches your intake.
- Look for NAAC grade (A or above) and, where relevant, AICTE approval for technical programs.
- Ask the university for the approval letter in writing.
Red flags
- "100% placement guarantee"
- Admission "agents" asking for cash
- No mention of UGC-DEB on the official website
